Volunteer: White Cane Day Walk - Let's walk the walk!

The annual White Cane Day Walk is an opportunity to help out while showing support for blindness awareness and accessibility. We will walk with our blind, DeafBlind and Low Vision participants from the Space Needle to the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library. You can be a Walk Ambassador and make sure everyone stays safe and on the right path, help at the reception in the Talking Book and Braille Library and  assist our blind and low vision participants to get to the conference room. There is a task for everyone! Register here:

You can help the Lighthouse continue it’s goal of ensuring people who are blind or DeafBlind have equal access to employment and services by becoming a Community Ambassador for the Lighthouse! All you have to do is attend a training session to learn more about the mission at the Lighthouse and all the services we offer, and we’ll send you off with Lighthouse literature so you’re equipped to help us spread the word at any tabling events, resource fairs, community programs and more!

Fall has fallen many leaves making it time to clear the sidewalks. The walkways around the Lighthouse need to be cleared for our employees who are blind to safely and easily navigate. We will supply all the tools, bags and routes. It would be helpful if you bring your own gloves. We will go out rain or shine- dress in layers. Great way to enjoy the outdoors with your colleagues.

Volunteer: I Need to Make a Call

Making calls for our clients or patients in our Independant Living Program or Low Vision Clinic. We will pay for you to obtain HIPAA certification and provide you with a script. Basic proficiency in Excel is required. After an initial in-person conversation this would be a remote position. These are follow-up calls to our current clients and patients who have asked to be called.

Come help us host our community at an early evening event at our Spokane facility.  We will be highlighting one of our programs and opening our facility for insider tours. We will need assistance with set up, running the event and closing down. There will be a variety of tasks from greeting guests and directing them to personing the raffle table and signing people up for facility tours and more!

The Lighthouse is a leader in breaking down barriers to employment by utilizing assistive technologies and providing comprehensive supportive services to all employees.

Our ideal Foundation Board member candidate has positivity and passion for the Lighthouse mission and is highly motivated to make a direct impact in the lives of people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities. The candidate also has a strong desire to develop relationships with the people the Lighthouse serves, initiative and motivation to help the Lighthouse tap into new funding sources, and work with staff to implement appropriate funding strategies.

We have an employee who is blind that would like someone to come to the Lighthouse periodically to help read his mail and fill out forms on mutually agreeable dates. The Lighthouse will provide a quiet space.  This would be very helpful and appreciated. A great way to get to know an individual who is blind. Come do a small thing to make a big difference!
